\"If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn\'t need to lug around a camera.\"

My short film “Autumn Memories”
This is my first short film inspired by all the great DSLR photography going on lately on Vimeo and other sites like Exposure Room. I visited the Birmingham Botanical Gardens over the weekend and shot some fall colors with the people taking advantage of perfect photography weather. Babies, bridal portraits, family pictures, sweet sixteens, senior portraits, you name it, there was somebody shooting it. Click here to go to the Vimeo page where you can see the larger HD or full screen version.
He can’t win for losing! (funny short film)
Need a laugh? Check out “Rock Bottom,” a great little short film (02:45) by a British amateur photographer. Bob Lorrimer owns a key business, and in his spare time he’s making movies with his Canon 7D 35mm camera, a DSLR that shoots HD video. This one’s got a great story, shot in a fantastic location, with a twist at the end that’s guaranteed to make you chuckle. Have a look:
If you liked that, you can see more of his work on his Vimeo page. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Bob Dotson’s Veterans Day Story 11-11-09
NBC’s Bob Dotson visits a group of mothers who find strength together at Arlington National Cemetery in an “American Story” for the Today Show. Here’s the link:

He’s a master storyteller who wrote a great book on writing for television called “Make It Memorable,” which I highly recommend. There’s a link to all his “American Stories” in the blogroll sidebar on my website, greenmediaproduction.com. He’s our generation’s Charles Kuralt. If you are looking for some quality stories to amuse and inspire you, he definitely delivers.
Adoption Anniversary (short film)
A loving father filmed and edited this touching tribute to his daughter, three years after her adoption. The way it is captured shows the depth of his affection for the two ladies in his life in a way words just can’t express. Click the image to view the video on ExposureRoom:
This kind of work really sets a high standard for web video, one that is increasingly within the reach of consumers with a vision and the right equipment and software. As the financial barriers to film making drop lower and lower, you can expect to see more high quality work like this from people you’ve never heard of, but want to see more of their work. I really enjoy finding films like this and sharing them, and I hope it brings a smile to your face like it did to mine.
“Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!” …20 yrs later
Wow. Now I’m really feeling…well, not old, but let’s just say I remember hearing this on the radio driving back to college from a trip home going over the mountains in East Tennessee, and after living through the last 20 years of the Cold War, I had this really exciting sense of history in the making. I heard Pres. Reagan’s speech, and then before he left office, sure enough, the wall came down. Google has posted a slideshow of photos from LIFE magazine from when they tore down the Berlin Wall, 20 years ago. Every photo tells a story, and what powerful stories they are!
Incredible Animation…
This is one of the best short films I’ve ever seen, in my life. It was made by Ari Murakami. There are multiple kinds of animation going on here, from stop motion 3D to 2D and video. Also, it tells a really poignant story, and all without a bit of dialogue. Enjoy.
This was another treasure showcased on “Critics” with Philip Bloom and Steve Weiss (See “God of Small Things” just below this post).
“God of Small Things”
Amazing video by Sumit Seru. Just a microscope, a camera, and a sound track. Makes you think, though.
Shot in HD by pointing the camera into the microscope viewfinder. Genius!
Featured in a webisode of “Critics” with Philip Bloom and Steve Weiss of Zacuto.
